Even though Georgetown is about as far away from London as it gets, Dusty Rose Tea Room owner Jeanette Peterson says you can still get a taste of English traditions ahead of the upcoming royal wedding.
“A few of my customers said they will get up and watch the wedding,” Peterson said.
It’s a place where people sit, relax and enjoy tea time – like afternoon tea served at a low table.
“The Queen would have tea in the afternoon with her friends on a low table – a coffee table – and they would have sweets and they would enjoy that,” Peterson said.
There’s also high tea, which is served at a higher dining room table. That’s the way most people in England serve their tea.
“The rest of the people in England wanted to copy what the queen was doing with her tea, but they had a dining room table they served it on,” Peterson said.
Unless you’re in America – then high tea is the highest form of tea all the time.
“In our country, we have evolved a little as far as high tea tends to be,” Peterson said.
Either way, when you’re sitting for tea at the Dusty Rose, you can plan on spending a few hours enjoying the company, eating the food, hearing stories and of course trying tea.
“We have 30 types of tea you can choose from,” Peterson said.
It’s been bringing a lot of business through the doors, where things are decorated in a Victorian era theme.
“Step back 100 years, but we do take credit cards,” Peterson said.
